How to collect rainwater
In this period of the year, especially during the classic summer storms, it would be important to collect rainwater by conveying it into plastic cans or tubs. The goal is to rationalize the use of this resource, one of the most important and indispensable element for life on earth, and also to protect our plants: in fact, rainwater is particularly suitable for watering because it is free from limestone, sometimes harmful to plants. To collect rainwater on the terrace, various systems can be put in place, from the most homely, simple and fast, to those that require more time and a certain expense.
During rainy days, arrange plastic tubs (those used to collect laundry) with a rather large diameter that will have to be emptied, as they are filled, into plastic cans or tanks. Plastic bottles can also be placed with a funnel that increases the surface for collecting water. Another home system is to collect rainwater from the downspout by conveying it inside a tank connected to the end of the pipe. Then the pipe that is used for water distribution is connected from the tank.
Also you can wash fruit and vegetables in a basin in the sink, so as to collect the water and use it for watering. Even the cooking water, without salt, and once cooled, is suitable. The advice is to add half a tablespoon of vinegar for every liter of water: this will make the pH more acidic and therefore neutralize the basically basic levels.
